“The high resolution screen is gorgeous. Helvetica has never, ever looked so good on screen. Everything is very fast, very responsive. When you drag something – whether it’s the slider button to unlock the phone, a zoomed-in photograph, or a web page – the drag keeps up with your finger. I haven’t found a single element of the iPhone UI that doesn’t feel super-snappy. The whole thing feels very realistic.” —Daring Fireball: iPhone First Impressions

Why banks use that awful robotic looking font for routing and account #'s

Why did banks settle on that very 70s futuristic — and downright awful-looking — font as the standard typeface for the routing and account numbers on checks? Is there something inherently superior about it? If so, why isn’t it found on more official documents?

iPhone: Regular Web is Good, but Mobile Web is Better, Especially Over EDGE

Safari’s “pinch” technology is pretty amazing, but is it worthwhile to view regular web pages on your iPhone when a mobile-friendly counterpart is available, one which will load in a fraction of the time? For instance, on average Yahoo.com takes 30 seconds to load on the iPhone while m.yahoo.com loads in only 4 seconds.

How Digg is Burying Itself?

This will go down in history as one of the most ironic decisions by a company. Digg.com’s decision to give CENSORSHIP control of content by use of the bury button will, in the end, bury them. (via News dugg by p0ps)

“It’s true that Apple discourages piracy in several ways, but that’s not the primary reason Apple’s portable products don’t record audio and video, iPhone included. It’s because Steve Jobs can’t abide the thought of someone using his products to make something that looks or sounds like crap.” —Listening Post - Wired Blogs

“We tried some speed tests on an EDGE handset ourselves, and though it’s been a little inconsistent, we’ve been shocked to find a number of runs over 200kbps. True, these kinds of speeds are theoretically possible (actually, little known fact, the ITU technically defines EDGE as a 3G standard), but we’d never expect to see them in practice. Should make the iPhone’s browsing experience a little more bearable if it holds up!” —http://www.engadget.com/2007/06/28/atandt-customers-seeing-sudden-boost-in-edge-speeds/
